Thursdays at The Pearl Exchange are for anyone who wants to express themselves with these creative mediums. Whether you already know your way around a camera, or pen and paper – or whether you’ve never tried this before… Now is your chance to explore your creativity in a supportive, stimulating environment.

World Building.

Join Sam Horton of Granite and Glitter for two connected workshops around the idea of ‘world building’ in creative writing, by creating a piece set on an invented island. Participants will be encouraged to develop a rich and textured history for their location, as well as a cast of inhabitants whose lives are influenced by the environment and constraints of the place they have created. If you want to write but struggle to get started, this inventive approach will help unleash some ideas.

We are super excited to welcome Ella Frears for a poetry workshop in May. Originally from Cornwall, now based in London, Ella performs regularly across London and beyond, whilst giving talks and lectures at Falmouth University and University East London. Her poetry collection was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. She’s also very nice and will put you at ease immediately. Her workshop will walk you through an exploration of various writing techniques to practice starting and ending your poetry effectively. You’ll be learning how to fill in blank pages and banish writer’s block by observing and learning from poets who champion this genre. This workshop is open to anyone, whatever your writing experience, don’t let beginner status hold you back.

Come and create your own beer can pinhole camera and learn the process and creation of cyanotype prints. This is a fun, easy way to make unique sun-dried artwork with a vintage feel. With pinhole cameras, you have the chance to learn about camera basics such as exposure, aperture and lighting.
