ABOUT THE EXCHANGE — ABOUT THE EXCHANGE — ABOUT THE EXCHANGE — ABOUT THE EXCHANGE — ABOUT THE EXCHANGE — ABOUT THE EXCHANGE —

The Pearl Exchange

Following the death of Pearl Bamford in 2019 aged 19, her parents Rose & Johnny felt compelled to assist the younger generation of North Cornwall and Devon and help them build more positive futures. Having helped Pearl through her struggles Johnny and Rose have experienced first-hand the lack of support, direction and hope for her generation and her death highlighted a need for positive, creative activities and community involvement so we can come together and support each other.

We believe that this is the time to invest in and grow our creative community – to work to make sure that young people are not left behind or excluded from the opportunities that the South West has to offer. We know that there are many ways of coming together, developing our potential, skills and abilities, and helping and supporting one another – and the COVID pandemic has highlighted the challenge we all face when we are working out how to make the best of our lives.

Create, Nurture & Inspire

Founded in 2020, The Pearl Exchange aims to improve the lives of 18-30 year olds in the Bude and surrounding areas through creative practices and cultural experiences. We support young adults through counselling and wellbeing activities and facilitating connections that lead to work and life opportunities. Our events, workshops and happenings are hosted from the Pitch and Putt building in Bude.

Our focus is on the creative arts and the inspiration that collaboration and engagement can offer, as well as providing a free professional counselling service for mental health support. We also host a number of clubs and collectives – Arty Fridays, Parent Support Group, Film, Photography, Yoga  – alongside our regular workshops led by professionals. These offer opportunities to connect and share interests, develop skills and networks outside of our main programme.

Open To All

We work hard to fundraise to ensure that our programmes and counselling are free of charge. We recognise that many of our potential participants do not have the means to pay and we are determined that there should be no financial barriers to taking part in what we have to offer. Our current base is in Bude and in order to offer access to in-person events we have available a hardship fund to those who are unable to meet transport costs.
