Saturday 23rd April, 5-7pm
“At night the herbs outside my window
are pummelled by rain. I wake infused,
nude on the bare bed. Morning comes
with a basket of boiled eggs, still warm,
under a folded cloth. I crack one, lift its top.
What did I hope would be inside?”
from the poem Soak It All In by Ella Frears
We’re teaming up with award-nominated Cornish poet Ella Frears, bringing you a poetry workshop based on ‘the self’. Ella’s debut poetry collection ‘Shine, Darling’ was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize, she’s the resident poet at Dartington Gardens, and we’re really excited to have her back at The Pearl Exchange after her hugely successful workshop last summer!
“Before coming to Ella Frears’ workshop I had only ever written poems at school. However, after meeting such an inspirational woman I now write many poems. She taught me the importance of writing whatever you feel, not worrying about rhyming, or what others will think.”
In this workshop, we’ll write poems based our thoughts, feelings and experiences, finding the magic in our everyday lives. Ella will lead us through a series of low-pressure activities, exploring the theme ‘Who Am I?’. This workshop is for all ability levels, completely judgement free, whether you’re an experienced writer or have never written a poem in your life. Book now to secure your place – don’t miss out!
