General Manager

Job Description
This is a hands-on role based within the building to run our day to day delivery. The role is very much public facing and requires an upbeat can-do attitude, we hope that the role can be fulfilled with passion and an enthusiasm for our vision.
Job Summary
- To work with our Managing Director, the Team and Trustees to design a future vision for The Pearl Exchange output
- To curate a monthly programme of workshops talks and events
- To organise and oversee the programme, hosts and events
- To work with the Marketing & Operations Manager to manage and oversee junior staff members and volunteers
- The manage the workshop hosts, ensuring they are aligned with the organisation
- To directly manage the Programme Coordinator
- Act as an advocate / ambassador for The Pearl Exchange including the promotion and delivery of its vision and aims.
This role is the lynch pin and driving force of The Pearl Exchange. Based in our building, you will oversee delivery of the programme, liaise with workshop hosts and participants and manage all our delivery and junior members of staff.
The below list breaks down the main responsibilities of your role, however as a small organisation with a small team, there may be times when you are asked to do things outside this list. We ask for flexibility and adaptability in your working practices to allow for this.
Responsibilities:
Day to day running of the venue:
- Opening up the building and setting up for the day.
- Checking in attendees and hosts, ensuring The Pearl Exchange is always a welcoming and organised space.
- Working collaboratively with Marketing & Operations Manager and as well as with remainder of team:
- Attend weekly meetings
- Execute delivery plans
- Propose new workshops, talks and events
- Network with relevant hosts or partner organisations
- Ensure the space for workshops and events including equipment, materials and refreshments is prepared. If you’re not physically on-site it is your responsibility to make sure other staff do the same.
- Ensuring the facilities are clean and well organised –
- Ensure the daily set-up and closing checklist is used
- Where necessary arrange for urgent maintenance issues or cleaning to be addressed (in order for planned events/workshops to go ahead)
- Supervising staff, volunteers and helpers. Organise the staff work rota. Oversee rota to make sure building is always covered.
- Ensure the building is secure.
- Promote our counselling service and signpost participants that need additional support.
- Conduct outreach drives and initiatives with other team members to get people through the door.
- Work with the Marketing & Operations Manager to brainstorm new means of marketing and outreach.
- Anything else that might be required for the role to fulfil its purpose and our goals.
- Upholding TPE policies, working to Health & Safety Risk Assessment and as our lease permits.
- Keep records of accidents or incidents in the Accident/Incident folder
Admin duties:
- Overseeing and optimising the booking process, online and on-site.
- Ensure everyone is registered for all sessions and the Register is completed for each workshop/event.
- Liaising with hosts and attendees regarding information and details of workshops / events.
- Being aware of attendees registration, feedback and evaluation forms. Gathering testimonials and encouraging people to complete feedback reports. Distributing evaluation forms and ensuring hosts do the same.
- The expectation is that you work from TPE whenever feasible.
The Pearl Exchange team :
- Working with the Managing Director and team on new events / workshops / clubs to keep the program interesting, inspiring and varied.
- Attend a weekly team meeting.
- Attend occasional Trustees meetings to update and feedback.
HOURS
Between 3 – 4 days a week, depending on candidate. (flexible schedule available)
SALARY
£31,285 (Pro-rata) plus expenses
