The Hooligan Show
The hooligans are back!
Hooligan Art Community are a group of performance artists from Kyiv, Berlin and London. The Hooligan Project is a new music and theatre performance which they are creating and performing in collaboration with local young adults from the Bude area.
The project takes inspiration from the story of Simeon, Hooligan Art Community’s professional Ukrainian actor who was once a teenage football hooligan, fighting in brutal clashes against rival football supporters. At the same time he was studying in the arts lyceum in his hometown and dreaming of becoming an actor. He covered his bruises with make-up before going on stage at the local opera house to present evenings of music, poetry and dance.
Together with young adults from The Pearl Exchange, the group will give voice to their ideas about violence, vulnerability and belonging, as they sing and dance the question: “is there a hooligan inside each of us?”
The project is co-produced with Harbour Festival in Redruth where it will be performed on 21-22 September at new arts venue The Ladder.
We’re hosting a preview performance at The Pearl Exchange on 18th September at 19:30. Suggested donation of £5 on the door, although please book your spot in advance below.
Open to all ages, though parental guidance is advised as the show does contain some adult themes.
