We’re so excited to have Afrika Eye back at The Pearl Exchange, bringing us an evening of Moroccan music, food and film.
We’ll begin with a musical introduction with master of Moroccan Gnawa music, Mohamed Errebbaa. After his performance, we will sit down to share some traditional Moroccan food before we begin our film: Casablanca Beats.
Director Nabil Ayouch has drawn on his own experience of opening a youth cultural centre in Casablanca. Former rapper, Anas takes a job teaching hip hop in an underprivileged neighbourhood. Despite differences in identity, religion, and politics, Anas encourages his students to bond together and break free from the weight of restrictive traditions, to follow their passion and express themselves through the arts. A brilliant cast of first-time actors bring to life this inspiring coming-of-age drama about the liberating power of self-expression. Set in the lively contemporary streets of Casablanca, it rejects the clichés about the Arab world. A hip-hop musical like no other.
Diverse Artists Network are also hosting an event at The Pearl Exchange during the day, aiming to bring together those that are already working in the arts sector and those who would like to access more diversity in the arts. Find out more here →
